OPC assessment coming up? Most candidates practice for 2–4 weeks beforehand. Other prep services charge £30–60 — this starts at £14.99, once, forever.
What's included
Everything you need to prepare
Four core tests, a full interview bank, a Premium-exclusive divided attention test, and an optional 2-hand coordination test — all modelled on the UK train driver OPC assessment.
Vigilance Test
A practice version of the sustained-attention test (similar to the WAFV) used in the OPC battery. Monitor a stimulus for 30 minutes and respond the instant it changes. Measures your ability to stay alert on long, uneventful stretches of track.
- ✓30-minute full-length simulation
- ✓Random stimulus intervals
- ✓Scored on hits, misses & reaction time
Hazard Perception Flash Test
A practice version of the hazard-perception flash test (similar to the ATAVT). A traffic scene flashes for 1 second. Identify which elements you saw — lights, vehicles, pedestrians, signs, bicycles, motorcycles. Tests perceptual speed and scene awareness.
- ✓20 scenes per session
- ✓Brief flash per scene
- ✓Per-element identification scoring
Rules & Procedures Test
A practice version of the rules & procedures memory test (similar to the TRP1). Read a fictional safety rules passage, then answer 18 multiple-choice questions from memory. Tests how quickly you can absorb and recall procedural information.
- ✓5-minute timed reading phase
- ✓18 questions from memory
- ✓6 different question sets
Group Bourdon Test
A concentration test used in train driver assessments. Rows of dot groups are printed on a sheet — find and cross out every group with exactly 4 dots as fast as you can.
- ✓Print a unique sheet every time
- ✓400 dot groups per sheet
- ✓Answer key included on page 2
Divided Attention Test — Beats & Symbols
PremiumA practice version of the divided attention test format used in OPC assessments (similar to the TEA-Occ). Listen to an audio tone sequence and count the low beats — while simultaneously scanning a page of symbol pairs for matches. Competitors charge £25+ extra for a standalone app. It's included in the Premium plan.
- ✓3-part progressive difficulty
- ✓Audio + visual simultaneously
- ✓Included in Premium

2-Hand Coordination Test
PremiumA practice version of the psychomotor coordination test of the type used in OPC assessments. Guide a moving dot along a track from A to B using both hands simultaneously — left stick controls up/down, right stick controls left/right. Tests the fine motor control and hand independence that assessors look for. Gamepad recommended for the authentic two-stick experience, but keyboard works too.
- ✓Models the OPC assessment format
- ✓10 attempts per session
- ✓Scored on accuracy & speed

Practice the interview with an AI coach
Train operators are increasingly running the interview as the deciding stage. Practise your answers out loud — the Coach assesses each one against what real assessors look for and tells you exactly what to fix.
Speak or type
Hit record and answer aloud like a real interview, or type your answer in. Your words are captured and assessed verbatim.
Honest feedback
The Coach scores you on what assessors actually look for — safety instinct, STAR structure, communication, and concrete evidence — then tells you what to add.
Read or listen
Feedback streams to screen and can be read aloud in a natural voice — useful when you're rehearsing on the move.
Stop guessing what assessors want.
Get one free AI feedback on any of our 20 competency questions. If you find it useful, add the Coach for £20 — one-time payment, no subscription, unlimited feedback for life.
The vigilance test
Simple concept. Harder than it sounds.
A grey square sits in the centre of the screen. When it briefly turns black, press Space. For 30 minutes. Staying focused the whole time is the real challenge — just like monitoring a signal panel on a real journey.

Reviews
What candidates are saying
Real reviews from people who used Train Driver Tests to prepare for their OPC assessment.
“Great practice for the day - only fault I have with it is there are not a great deal of different images in the ATAVT test which significantly limits your practice. Good to be t a feel for the tests though. More images please as this was my only fail!!!!!”
Garycollinson5
“Overall would recommend this site if you’re preparing for or going through recruitment process. Found it similar to the actual tests and had a good bit of practice with it.”
Michael
“Definitely recommend, especially at that price point. Very similar to the actual tests!”

FAQ
Common questions
Which train companies use these tests?
The Vigilance test (WAFV) and ATAVT are part of the standard OPC test battery used by most GB mainline train operating companies including Avanti West Coast, GTR, Northern, Southeastern, CrossCountry, ScotRail and more. Most GB mainline recruitment is aligned with RSSB standard RIS-3751-TOM, though exact assessments and recruitment stages can vary by operator.
Is this the same as the official test?
No. These are independent practice tests modelled on the format and parameters of the official OPC assessment — 30 minutes for the vigilance test, brief flashes for the hazard-perception test. No practice site can replicate the exact proprietary software, but the format is calibrated to be similar.
What happens after I pay?
You get instant access to all included tests with unlimited attempts — Basic gives you 4 tests and interview prep, Premium adds the Divided Attention (Beats & Symbols) test, our practice version similar to the TEA-Occ. Access never expires.
Do I need to do the Vigilance test in one sitting?
Yes — the official test is 30 minutes continuous. Our practice test matches this length. Use the "Stop early" option to build up gradually, but aim to complete the full 30 minutes before your assessment day.
Can I get a refund?
If you're not happy with the product, get in touch within 7 days of purchase and we'll make it right — either by resolving the issue or issuing a refund. We want you to feel confident buying.
